Andrew's earliest memory is of being stung by a bee - throwing stones at the hive he agrees today was not a good idea but it does highlight his innate tendency to stir things up a bit.
Growing up he dreamt of becoming a marine biologist due to his fascination with sharks or a pilot which explains why you will still find him at air shows. In high-school however he was bitten by the sporting bug with rugby being his preference and that changed his career path forever. With his interest in sport and fitness piqued he started as a floor instructor and worked his way up the ranks, he names becoming Club Manager at the age of 24 the highlight of his career thus far.
Although Andrew regrets not focussing enough on academics in his matrix year he does highlight graduating cum laud at age 33 and having his son present to see him collect his certificate from the Dean as the best moment of his life to date.
He is a family man, the father of two boys and now at the helm at Wynberg Zone Fitness. With his motto “who dares win” taken from the British SAS you can be sure that you will see him making his mark. Finding inspiration in being able to make a difference he drives himself to develop and coach his staff to ensure happy staff and members.
What would he see as an alternative career path? “Being a successful rugby coach” off course – rugby is one of his passions and he still trains twice a week at the rugby club in False Bay.
He has found happiness and balance in his life and this shows in the way in which he works with his staff and members. His great work ethic sees him taking not only charge but also responsibility.
After travelling Europe and working in London he is happy to call Cape Town home and dreams of owning a wine farm in Stellenbosch. He loves good food and names Italian and Indian home cooked meals as his favourite.
We can't wait to see what transpire under his management as we are sure that with his sense of adventure, yet pragmatic personality mixed with his spice for life it would be pure magic.
